Simple ways tocas you go back to school and work

By Christina Thomas

Summer is over and fall has come, which means school has come. One thing that hasn’t left though is COVID. As people are going back to school or even work (could be you, your spouse, your friend, your child), it’s important to remember to do your best to stay safe as you go out everyday. Here are some ideas for staying COVID safe while we’re going back to school and back to work this fall. These things are general practices that can be done to keep yourself and those around you safe from germs as a whole. It doesn’t have to be only for preventing COVID, remember there are still cases of the common cold and the flu and we need to try our best to prevent those as well.

  1. Making sure you are wearing your face mask, especially around large crowds of people, is one thing you can do to protect yourself and others from the virus that is spreading. If you can, wearing a mask can help you to protect yourself and others from the germs that are flying around. It is one of the most important methods of preventative care that you can use to protect yourself from the virus, especially if you’re in a really public setting. Also, it’s important to remember to wash your face mask as often as you can if you are not using the disposable ones.
  2. Another thing is to invest in hand sanitizer and wipes. Chances are you are going to be working at a desk most likely, whether it’s for schoolwork or your job, you will be spending a lengthy amount of time at a desk. Having wipes to wipe down the area you will be occupying is good because you really can’t avoid touching your desk so starting out with a clean area is beneficial. With that, it’s really important to have hand sanitizer as you go around touching doorknobs and door handles. It’s hard to think of your hands and what they are touching constantly but keeping them clean as often as possible will do you plenty of good in terms of avoiding the virus. Not only as you travel from place to place or work at desks, but also as you interact with people through hugs or shaking hands. It is really easy to get comfortable at your desk area if you’re sitting there for a long period of time or in an environment where you are spending hours there and you don’t want to accidentally bring something home with you so having wipes and sanitizer are a big help.
  3. If possible, try your best to maintain social distancing. It could be kind of hard in a school environment but if you can do your best to stay at an appropriate distance away from people, especially if they’re not wearing a mask, that can protect you and them as well. This is obviously  something that we were doing as a whole when the whole pandemic started, but you know it’s hard to do it as you get into bigger areas and things kind of start to go back to the way they were.
  4. Wash your hands as often as you possibly can. It doesn’t only have to be after using the restroom, which is obviously important as well but, washing them every so often is vital. As a general practice, you really should keep your hands clean by regularly washing your hands with soap and water.

While everyone is entitled to their own opinion and is free to make their own choice, this is not advice that you have to take but it is important to consider. If not for the safety of yourself, at least for the safety of those around you. These are important practices that can save not only your life, but the lives of those around you and the last thing anyone wants is to get the virus so do your part and stay safe.
